Seven Sneaky Ways To Check Out Your Doctor or Plastic Surgeon
You’ve gone through all the steps of finding a plastic surgeon who might be right for you. You’re done to the home stretch, but you’re having a difficult time deciding between one or two surgeons. Perhaps one plastic surgeon is in Newark, NJ and the other is in Princeton, NJ. What do you do? How do you finally choose the right doctor for you?
Here are seven sneaky ways you can get another view of that doctor to make sure you’re going to be in good hands:
1. Use the Internet – You should probably look up your plastic surgeon’s name and practice on Google or another search engine to make sure the practice has good reputation and doesn’t have any skeletons in the closet. When you use an internet search engine you’ll be able to search message boards, websites and all sorts of blogs instantly for your surgeon’s name and practice. If your plastic surgeon is experienced and has a lot of happy clients you will definitely find some testimony and people raving about the services. Likewise, if there are a lot of unhappy people you will probably read about it. There may be a lot of opinions, but try to get the overall fee. If you do find a few issues or complaints then you may want to investigate further or ask your doctor about those complaints directly.
2. Check out the Waiting Room and Offices – You’ll want to keep an eye out around your plastic surgeon’s waiting room and offices. Make sure the offices are clean and kept up well. You might even want to make sure the magazines are new and up to date and appropriate. A cosmetic surgeon may have some plastic surgery magazines, some beauty and health magazines and even a few local magazines available. Remember that a cosmetic surgeon is a business owner and the condition of a business often reveals a lot about how the business is run.
3. Pay attention to Personal Appearance – Not yours… your doctor’s! Your doctor’s personal appearance should be neat and professional, just like any other doctor or professional you’d invite into your home. Your plastic surgeon doesn’t have to look like a Greek god, but he or she should be well-groomed and should be aware that physical beauty is important. Remember, even your plastic surgeon knows that plastic surgery can raise your salary. Just as you would not want to eat food from a restaurant with sloppy and dirty waiters and cooks you would not want to be operated on by someone who cannot take the time to keep up physical appearances.
4. Pay attention to Your Doctor’s Personality – Watch how your plastic surgeon speaks to you, answers your questions and generally treats you. He should treat you professionally and with respect as two business partners should respect each other. If your plastic surgeon or doctor is dismissive of your concerns, don’t ask you many questions or doesn’t treat you well, you should look elsewhere. After all, if your surgeon isn’t listening and respecting your opinion then how you can expect him to change your body the way you want?
5. Treatment of Nursing/Medical Staff - You should expect respect and professional treatment, so the plastic surgeon you choose should treat everyone with that same respect. It is important to keep in mind that this cosmetic surgeon is going to make permanent and life-changing modifications to your body and you want this to be done by someone who honestly wants to make you happy. If the plastic surgeon you’re choosing is just chasing a paycheck, then you won’t be happy with the service.
6. Peek at Your Plastic Surgeon’s Car – If at all possible, check out your plastic surgeon’s car in the parking lot. How do you know which car he or she owns? Talk about cars casually in the interview. Mention that you have to leave because you’re meeting someone at a show room or simply ask if your surgeon could make any personal recommendations. This does two things: it build rapport with your plastic surgeon and it allows you to get an idea of the type of vehicle he or she drives. After speaking with the plastic surgeon look around the parking lot. When you find the car check for a few things. Make sure it is neat and tidy. Is it well-cared for? Remember: this person is going to be cutting you open, so you want someone who is fastidious and orderly in his or her own life!
7. Check out the Hospital - Yes, many hospitals are requiring shorter stays. But there are still plenty of cosmetic surgery procedures that need to performed in a hospital even if they are only outpatient procedures. Your plastic surgeon will have a working relationship with a local hospital. You’ll definitely want to find out which your plastic surgeon works with. You can almost certainly visit the hospital and ask the nursing staff or people working there about your plastic surgeon.
Obviously you may not be able to do all these things to investigate all the plastic surgeons on your cosmetic surgeon list. Using most of these methods will allow you to finally choose the best plastic surgeon that is right for you!
